The Swinging Sixties

The 60's! Easily one of my favourite decades of modern fashion and history. The 60's was the age of Rebellion, modern fashion and the birth of modern music. The rebellion nature came from the teenagers and students not wanting to end up like their parents and wanting independence, not wanting to look or sound like their parents. This actually started in the 50's with the rise of Elvis and actors such as James Dean, but became world wide in the 60's. Girls wore short dresses, which was seen as disgraceful for women at the time and the men wore leather jackets and boot cut jeans. The age of Rock and Pop become the fashion of that decade and carries on into the next decade. The most prominent band that came form the 60's and are still the most successful music act in history were The Beatles. A band formed in Liverpool, England gained world wide fame and 'Beatlemania' was spreading across the world. Another note to popular music was The Jackson 5, a pop group in America become popular, while Elvis was got his come back and became more popular than ever. Fashion of the 60's was rebellious, the most famous has got to be the Hippie movement that started in the mid 60's, where people of all ages but more prominent in students, disbanded from society to form their own and live the life os free spirited people who didn't have to listen to the 'Man' as they call it. There was also another trend from the 60's I forgot to mention, the Mods, a subculture group of people which is hard to pin point what it actually was because it was continuously reinventing itself. But this movement was generally of working-class people who didn't like the dull and boring fashion and wanted to reinvent modern fashion at the time. 60's Mood Board
